Ionity has inaugurated its largest charging park to date in Affi on Lake Garda, Italy. The new Ionity site has 18 HPC columns, each with up to 350 kW of power, supplied by a photovoltaic system.

The HPC park is located at the A22/E45 ‘Lago di Garda Sud’ freeway exit and thus at a strategic junction between continental Europe, the northern Italian lakes and the south of Italy, according to the charging network operator.

As before, there is no power sharing, so full charging power is available at each of the charging points. Other operators often install charging stations with two charging points – if both charging points are occupied, the specified power must be shared.

With its 18 charging points, however, Affi is only just the largest Ionity charging park to date: At the end of February, the fast-charging joint venture in southern France opened a double charging park in Mornas, near Avignon.

Mornas Village and Mornas les Adrets, located on either side of the “sun highway” (from Lyon to the Mediterranean coast) can each serve up to 16 electric vehicles at a time.

While charging, customers can “benefit from the numerous services and amenities of the nearby shopping center,” according to Ionity. “Affi represents the heart of carbon-neutral electric travel in Northern Italy and beyond,” stresses Elena Airoldi, Country Manager Italy for the charging point operator.

“The location makes a perfect entry to the Lake Garda region and at the same time represents an ideal stop-over for long distance electric travel going north or south.”

In Italy, Ionity now operates a total of 28 charging parks with 172 HPC connections. Nine additional sites are currently under construction. By the end of 2022, the Ionity network counted more than 450 charging stations and more than 2,000 charging points in 24 European countries.
