The Norways Road Information Authority OFV registered 6,148 new registrations of electric cars in July.
This is an increase compared to the previous year, but a significant decrease compared to June. In terms of models, the Tesla Model Y was not in the lead for the second time this year.
In Norway, 6,148 new electric cars were registered in July, less than half as many as in June.
Compared to the same month last year, however, new registrations of electric cars in Norway rose by 20.1 per cent.
The first month of a quarter is traditionally somewhat weaker in the import-only market of Norway, and July sales in 2022 also more than halved compared to June.
This is compounded by the holiday season, which traditionally makes July one of the weaker months in Norway.
Across all drive types, 7,525 new cars were registered in Norway in July, which is 278 vehicles or 3.8 per cent more than in July 2022.
With 6,148 new electric cars, the BEV share of passenger car registrations in July 2023 was thus 81.7 per cent.
In addition, 613 new plug-in hybrids (8.1 per cent market share) were registered last month, which means that 89.8 per cent of all new cars in Norway had a charging connection in July.
However, compared to July 2022, PHEV registrations were down 31.1 per cent, and year-to-date PHEVs are down 26.9 per cent year-on-year.
A brief look at the other drive types: full hybrids came in at 443 new registrations, still ahead of pure internal combustion vehicles: the OFV shows 109 new registrations for petrol vehicles (market share 1.4 per cent), and 211 registrations for diesel vehicles (market share 2.8 per cent).
A year ago, the market shares were 3.4 and 4.8 per cent respectively, so they continue to decline.
The model ranking was topped in July by the VW ID.4 with 975 registrations (for the second time after January), followed by the Skoda Enyaq (691).
Tesla’s Model Y had only 195 new registrations, the Model 3 just nine. The Model Y is by far Norway’s best-selling model this year with 15,647 units so far, accounting for 21.1 per cent of all new cars.
The second-placed ID.4 has 4,863 new registrations for the year and a share of 4.2 per cent.
The ID.5 had 216 new registrations in July, which puts it in fifth place ahead of the Ford Mustang Mach-E (213) and the Model Y mentioned above.
With the two Tesla models, there are two prominent outliers to the downside in July. For example, the Nissan Ariya (247 new registrations) and the VW ID. Buzz (also 247 vehicles).
